did any of you have to undo the steering linkage?

 

I didn't have to undo anything, grind anything, lift anything, or fight with anything to get them on..I had to have my girl friend lay under the car to hold them up while I bolted them on or they would fall out on the floor.

 

i guess thats another way to get your girl on her back..




well thats good, i'm about to order some and i didnt want to have to start grinding crap and taking out stuff..

 

That has never been the problem..no lack of noookie here.. ..but how many of ya have a gal that will get under a car for ya...that is the question..

PS No problem with the Pacesetter install at all man..like I said they would fall out on the floor if she didn't hold them up to be bolted on..

 

what tools are needed for Pacesetters LT's??? Ill be doing the install on my own.

 

10mm gear wrench (air wrench if you can get one) 15mm socket for the dipstick bolt, and some of the stock y pipe bolts, 5/16 wrench to disconnect the battery, 7/16 wrench for installing the new header bolts, applicable to pacesetters (and maybe others) screwdriver to take out the plastic clips on the electrical connectors, and to raise the latch so you can disconnect them, 7/8 for the O2 sensors
Of course a jack and jack stands (I used a 3 ton sears jack, and 6 ton jack stands) sawzall, or grinder for stubborn stuff PB Blaster to soak the bolts prior to removal, some string/zip ties/ribbon/whatever to hold the headers up, either some mechanics gloves, or have a **** load of bandaids, several dozen cuss words
antisieze, and maybe some new header gaskets and some plugs and wires

i want to change my header on my 99 trans am but i am afraid of the header bolts breaking

 

so i have a ? i will probably be ordering the pacesetter header and tsp ory package from TSP. do i need an install kit to put these headers on that come with gaskets? or anything like that?
i know i will need o2 extentions but isnt it better to run the headers on it for a while then put them on or is it ok to go ahead and do it right away. I think i heard that the ceramic coated ones have something in them that burns off and could cause the o2sims to not function right

 

Pacesetters come with the bolts (you can use the stock ones) gaskets (use the stock GM metal ones) and the wire to extend your o2s, and some clamps, so you won't need the install kit for them. I'm assuming the TSP y pipe comes with clamps too
As for running the headers in for X miles to break them in, I didn't, I put the o2s in when I got the headers bolted to the engine, and I have no o2 codes.
The sims don't go in the exhaust gas stream, they simply plug into the rear o2 connectors,(the ones that are on the car) and keep the computer happy

 

ok so there was a guy talking about his y pipe banging against his floor board will i have this problem? I have also read about EGR stuff. what is all this i plan on running pacesetters with that tsp ory with no y pipes but i dont know what EGR stuff is or cags think i have heard that talked about too

 

The Y might bang, might not (mine doesn't)
EGR what year is the car, if it's 01 or 02 don't worry about it
00 or older you need to take out the pipe and get a plug for the hole in the intake 1 3/8" adjustable plug IIRC, then rip out the EGR stuff, you'll get the SES light but it won't affect how the car runs
CAGS has nothing to do with headers, it's the skip shift, can be disabled with either a resistor, or tuned out

 

I sawalled that litttle tab off the block (note: a sawzall will cut thru aluminum like butter )

Honestly the pacesetters were easyer to fit than the true-dual system I got at the same time, my advice: Leave yourself at least 2 days to do the job, that way you dont rush anything and it'll all go pretty easy.

 

mine is an 00 so this plug is at the intake and i just rip it out?

 

Go to your local parts store and get the adjustable plug first, then rip out the EGR tube, and install the plug, no more EGR

 

and the SES light will show up right? only way to get this off is to tune it out right or wrong?

 

find someone with hptuners that can delete the code for ya, takes five secs to delete the codes for the egr, strange thing is my AIR didn't throw a code until just now, and it's been off for quite some time now.

 

There is nothing on the coated headers..(any brand)..that will hurt your o2's..

 

slt200, did you have to raise the rear to install the headers? I'm thinking about installing Pacesetter LT's myself, just curious as to how high i'd have to get the front, and i have the rhino ramps already.

 

I may have put the car up on jack stands after I drove it up on the ramps. It was a few years ago and I do not remeber exactly how it went. Except it was very EZ.

 

FWIW my k member was 2 feet off the ground, headers slid in fine
