Default Power, Heat Range and Plug Gap rule of thumb?

I know you are supposed to decrease the plug gap when you go up in power but I can't seem to find the "rule of thumb" when it comes to this gap and heat range.

I've tried searching for it but can't find the usual posts or thread about it. Anyone care to chime in as to when you should decrease the gap and change the heat range of your plugs?
