Oops!! Battery Over charged..

i was charging my battery (optima red top) and i forgot about it and went and watched a couple movies and when i returned (after like 7 hours ) i get out of my other car (outside) and i smell rotten eggs. well i walk in my garage and DAMN!! it hit me. the battery was extremly HOT and it hissed at me a couple time. well now 4 hours later the smell is still all over the house, but the battery is cool to the touch and the lights in the car work. i cant start it though as my engine is apart.

im just glad it didnt explode.
all in all would i need a new battery or if this one starts am i OK?

Optima's are tough. It is probably ok but you can get your battery load tested to see if it is ok.
