Default Longtubes to avoid?

Okay, so I hear a lot of people recommending certains brands and telling me to stay away from others when it comes to headers. If/when I do get headers, I want something that will last and not give me problems. At the same time, I want something for a good price, because as we all know, price doesn't equal quality.

So can anybody give me some brands that have a good repuatation? And some that I should stay away from?

The Mac's are the cheapest I have seen, and the SLP's seem to cost a lot more than most others..

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Pacesetters are the best bang for the buck, other then that Stainless Steel ones cost more but will not rust over time.
All brands are basically equal except SLP's b/c they have terrible ground clearance

Noob--Headers are the most frequently discussed topic in this section. A simple search on "headers" will net you more in-depth information than you'll ever need/want. Short answer:
Best quality--Kooks, QTP (both stainless)
Best bang for buck--Pacesetter, Hooker, Edelbrock
Stay away--SLP

As long as you stay away from the SLP and Flowtech headers you'll be all good.

I have SLP headers for almost a year and half never a problem or concern. I gain 29 HP and 25 TQ from the swap. I have seen some of the other brands if I had to do it again I would still by SLP. If you are the type of person to go and drive over anything like you are offroading than yes do not get these headers because they do hang lower. One more thing I will never understand how someone could say stay away from SLP and own Pacesetter. If its not stainless then its trash.

You sound a little touchy! I have the pacesetters and my friend HAD the SLP's, so I can comment on both. The pacesetters are great headers, flange, welds, quality, etc., just in case you've never seen them in person before. The SLP's are a pain to install, usually dyno lower than other headers and can double as a snow plow lol! Just don't accidently hit a speed bump, hole in the road, etc. otherwise you run a good chance of yanking them right off your cylinder heads. The SLP's hang REDICULOUSLY low! If you would check out a set of pacesetters yourself in person, then You'd understand how someone could own the pacesetters and say to stay away from the SLP's.

Alright so I think I'll go with pacesetters. Anybody know of the best place to get them? Or know of any good sites to buy parts?

I've had no complaints about the edelbrock victor series LT's. Im making 400 rwhp with a mild cam and bolt-ons, so the headers have to be doing their job.

I went with flowtech and have had no issues. Paint did not even peel off yet and I have had them for over a year. They were a pain to install through. My buddies pacesetter went in much easier.

General consensus is just to stay away from SLP's because of clearace issues. If you have the money to spend get stainless steel, if not go with Pacesetters

Sorry man, but I just couldn't recommend the flowtechs to anyone. Some people, like you, have been lucky. The flowtechs just have such a weenie flange on them, and poor welds. Their quality is seriously lacking in many areas, and when pacesetters aren't much more expensive, there's just no reason to buy flowtechs. Be careful not to overtighten them or they will leak. There are just WAY too many stories of these headers leaking, either at first, or over time. It's just best to stay away from them. You MIGHT get lucky, but there's a good chance you won't.
