Default free MAF mods

What are all the free things you can do to the MAF that are good for some hp? Ive heard about porting it and descreening it. Are there any more and are these good ideas?

If you want to risk running lean, you can port/polish it or buy MAF ends from one of our sponsors over there --------->>>>>>>

Note: I believe porting your MAF with an A4 trans will decrease line pressure which can result in early problems. Help me out here if I'm wrong guys.

In porting I mean taking out the airfoil and sanding it down slightly, the exact thing they are doing on www.installuniversity.com. That just seemed pretty easy, plus descreening it...anyone done these without a diag. tool and gotten good results?

ps I have an M6

Porting will lean your car out. That's not a problem if you're running a little rich currently. Lots of guys here have ported/polished there MAF. I'm sure you'll find the answers you're looking for. Try running a search.

Good Luck!

The problem is I dont know if it is lean or rich, ive just heard rich is better and all ive done to my car is an air lid and !FRA. Ive just heard descreening it and porting the MAF gives you a little hp and leans it out a little bit(installuniversity says this is good for power)

Honestly.. I've had ported (Whisper) ends on both my cars (99 & 01) without tuning and never had a problem.

IMO on a 98 & 01-02 with they larger injectors.. you should be fine with ported MAF ends.

Yeah I probably will end up doing that, think descreening it is ok? What could go wrong if by chance it is getting too lean? Thanks for all the responces!

you can determine A/F ratio with ATAP, but, keep in mind, the sensor is VERY delicate, easily damaged and expensive.

By the way the hottest it gets here is like 105 in the dead summer, and its usually at least below 90 in the summer adn lower than 70 all around...think I would have detonation at these temps if I decided to descreen the maf and port it?
