Re: a/c ? Usually, when a system needs recharging, it has leaked slowly over an extended period of time. Due to the slow leak, and the oil being more dense than the refrigerant, the oil will be left behind as the refrigerant leaks out. So if it was a slow leak, you shouldn't have to worry about the oil. By a slow leak, I mean that your AC degrades in performance over months and months.
Re: a/c ? I service a/c systems & the only time you should have to deal with a/c oil is when componets are replaced. (gm delphi compressor systems use pag 100 oil) + You Have to do a componet/oil replacement properly for max performace , r-134 systems use pag oil which is hydroscopic fluid,like brake fluid it absorbes mosture from the air but at a much faster rate. Mosture ladden a/c oil is not good for system performance or it's longevity. The proper method is to add oil when system is charged or add & put system under a vacuum (empty). Never leave a discharged system open to the atsmosphere it will ruin the a/c oil & acumulator (drier/filter)
