Default exhaust experts wanted

I am thinking about up grading my exhaust system.I have a flowmaster catback system on my camaro at this time.I am looking at a pair of shorty headers and Y-pipe.I called ls1 motorsports and cost for the items listed +labor will be around 1300.00 .I hope someone out there has went through this and can shed some light. Is the performance increase VS cost worth it.I would like to keep it legal. They check equipment where I am from. Thanks for any info you can give. ed f

Of course if you want to stay legal shorties may be the only way if they check all that "stuff" out where you live. Then again, I would never waste my money on shorties anyways. And I know I'll get flamed for this, but I do not think headers are a good bang for the buck/performance vs cost type of modification at all. If already spending a lot of money or have a high horsepower application, then there clearly worth every penny. But to the average person who just does a couple of bolt-on's your money can be better spent elsewhere. 15rwhp is not worth $1,500(including installation) IMHO. I went through an expensive install, constant leaking, improper tuning, and minimal performanc gains on my first Camaro(bolt-on only) with headers so...It is all in what you want to do with your car.

Later,

Mike

I agree that shorties are not worth it.Longtubes gave me 20hp/20lb/tq across the board that I could feel, but at a price of $1250.You could go with a cutout(don't know how much HP gain with stock manifolds)

I put Hooker ceramic coated shorties on my 94vette. I would say very poor HP per $ ratio on that car, with no SOTP difference. As the others have said, definately do the full length tube headers, shorties are an absolute joke <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" /> .

Get hooker LT's with their Ypipe, extremely easy installation. Perfect Fit, i got a 25RWHP increase and it sounds amazing through the flowmaster catback.

Since you want to keep it legal, You would probably be better off finding some 01 or 02 manifolds and going with a good Y pipe and exhaust. You will get the same benefits and save around six or seven hundred dollars which could take care of an LS6 intake for added breathing. Just my 02.
