Default Headers

Has anyone had a problem with heat from headers. I am going to put headers on my 02-WS6 and heard that there could be a heat issue under the hood. Like stuff melting!!!!!!! I am just wondering if anyone has seen this or anything else from headers. Thank you.

There are ways to combat this: like jetcoating and header wrap. I have had macs for 3 months now and it still runs . I drove 4 hours in it to get to school too.

Isn't jetcoating just like ceramic coating? Won't header wrap hold the heat in the header? I plan on getting ceramic coated headers. Just trying to make sure I have all my bases covered before I sink money into my car.

I'm curious about all this too....I'm thinkin about getting the Hooker Super Comp. Ceramic coated headers. Is this worth the money and with there be any problems with melting plastic things and what not.

We put SLP LTs in a friend's `98 SS. The header actually touches a wiring harness on the passenger side so they give you some heat wrap to protect it. So far nothing has melted, the wrap doesn't even looked discolored. There doesn't seem to be any extra heat form under the hood.

I may be wrong but your engine compartment temps should go down after headers (removes hot exhaust fumes more efficiently). The only thing you would really have to look at is where the LT's get closer to other parts than the manifolds were.

putting headers on your car should efficiently lower the overall temperature in your car. where you have to watch for anything melting is anything that actually makes contact with them. the main issue with these are you might now have to get o2 extensions and they are plastic instead of nylon wrap, so just zip-tie them away from the primaries, collectors. hope this helps you go ahead with them. best of luck.

JetHot coating is your best bet, it reduces under hood temps by about 40*, it keeps the pipes 25% cooler, and will not turn colors like chrome or stainless. My headers are going to be jet hot coated when i get them.
