How to keep Mufflex Y from banging?

How to keep Mufflex Y from banging? I don't want to do a torque strap, tried it, tore my strap...What else can I do? Don't wanna bend the floorpan up if I can help it. Maybe I can loosen up the y-pipe and bend it down? Anybody else have this problem with Hookers?

Re: How to keep Mufflex Y from banging? First install a 1LE trans mount. That will HELP the trans and motor from moving around. Did you notice I said HELP, not stop! This will sound a bit geto but it works very well. Go to your local autoparts store and buy a section of 2 inch heater hose, header wrap, several 3.5 inch worm-style radiator clamps (depends on how many places the pipe is hitting, as to how many you'll need), and some thread locker. My local store didn't have bulk hose so I just picked a pre-formed hose(the straightest one I could find. I ended up with a piece that looked like a "L" about 22 inches long). Get your self some header wrap. Find the area(s) where your y-pipe is making contact. Wrap that section of the pipe with the wrap. Install one clamp to keep the wrap secure. Put just a bit a thread locker on the clamp so it doesn't work loose. Now cut a 3 inch section of hose and unscrew a clamp, and then insert the clamp through the hose. Wedge the hose and clamp assembly between the pipe and chassis; bringing the ends of the clamps around the y-pipe, and begin tightening the clamp together. Basically the clamp will be as though you left it like you bought it and slid the y-pipe through it(like the y-pipe is a radiator hose. Configure the piece of hose untop of the header wrap and between the chassis and tighten as much as possible. Then use a little thread locker. I used a dremel to cut off the excess band clamp. The hose will now act as a cushion or buffer and your ears won't hear that "BANG" and more importantly you knock sensors won't detect it and reduce timing.

Re: How to keep Mufflex Y from banging? THE header wrap is one of the best things i've done, and also i've dropped the cross brace and added several washers ...... NO MORE BANGING!!!! Just love it.............
