Question True dual side exhaust on a Z28??

Hey,

This is my first post here. Tomorrow I will be purchasing my first Z28. Currently in my collection are a 95 3.4 Bird, an 01 3.8 Bird, and a 96 LT4 Vette.
On to my question...
The Z28 has a 2.5" true dual system with an x pipe. This all goes through a pair of flowmaster 1 chambers which dump right below the axle. I want to run the exhuast out the sides with Stainless LT1 tips. I would bend the piping right after the X and put the mufflers after the 90* bends and just before the tips, which exit infront of the wheels.
The problem I see with this is that the 1 chamber will sit right below the [fuel filter]? on the drivers side. I dont think that it would the the smartest, or safest, choice to do this.
So what do I do to reduce the heat from the exhuast to prevent warming up the fuel lines? Do I have to build a heat shield, get that muffler and part of the pipes close to it ceramic coated on the outside? Or what?

Thanks
-Kevin

One problem you might run into is the clearance of the tips going out the side.

yeah ive thought about that but i was more curious about having a safety or fire hazard issue with the muffler right below the fuel filter, especially on longer trips on the highway. I guess i like the look too much of having side exhaust to not worry about the clearance problems.
Thanks

Honestly heat transfer to the fuel lines/filter shouldn't be a problem on longer trips on the highway because there will be plenty of air flowing around to move the heat away from the fuel lines.
You would however run into a problem in the city at stoplights and whenever idling because there will not be any air movement around the exhaust pipes and fuel lines to move the hot air away from the fuel lines. See what im saying?

Make a small heatshield. The fuel lines are really close to the headers where they enter the engine compartment. Problen solved there with a heat shield.

So youd be goign out each side or just passenger? How do you have clearance to bring a pipe across below the driveshaft? It seems on my car there is no way in hell a muffler, let alone a pipe, would fit, pluss when you jack the car up the suspension lowers in the back due to no load, wouldnt it hit the exhaust ( the DS)? Sounds like an interesting idea though and I know it can be done as others have done it.

I believe they'd be going out each side, with the mufflers basically under the rear seats. Like most TD setups are run.

I think it might be better to leave the mufflers where they currently are, then just run the pipe to the tips from there. You can always flatten the pipe some by sandwiching them between some 2x4's and putting them in a press to help with ground clearance if needed.

That setup could be fairly reasonable to install like you have in fact, regarding the shielding and associated placements there was a pic somewhere I can't recall almost exactly of the installed item, if you notice that somehow, it could definately be a nice compliment, to what you are going to see for, the vehicle.
