Default My track time blows...

I went to the track and ran a 13.86 at 103.47 for my best run. I have a stock 98 TA with the SLP air lid, MAF and flowmaster exhaust. I can't lock up, but I should still have a better trap speed. Any idea on what external mods I can do before my heads/cam/headers/y-pipe?

I would suggest maybe a FTRA or an ASP crank pulley. Oh BTW what were the conditions of the track on the day your raced, and what is the altitude of the track(this might be the reason your run was not AS good as you wanted it to be).

A few more things that may affect your trap speed: Do you have a manual or auto? What rpms are you shifting at? Are you letting off the gas before you cross the finish line?

I bet your car is fine, just need some practice. Don't worry though, cause so do I.

That sounds about right for a 98 on street tires.

The flowmaster exhaust is hurting you. those times arent that far off, maybe a little slow. You may of just got a slow one. Your heads/cam will take care of that when that time comes around.

Don't feel so bad, when I took my 98 Z28 A4 (3.23 gears, all stock except for a flowmaster muffler) to the track with nittos the best I could get was a 13.8@99mph with a 2.0 60ft. I was so pi$$ed! Then I got to thinking: Wensday night= no track prep, hot(87 degrees, very humid), and the previous owner had backed up nto something and bent up the exhaust. I never crawled under the car to look. When I had my old Borla installed last month they showed me the old pipe that was bent. The right tailpipe was about 6 inches under the bumper cover(pushed in 6 six inches). This in turn crimped the over the axle pipe almost flat. There was about 3/4-7/8 of an inch opening in the pipe for the exhaust to go through before it got to the muffler. With the borla, the car feels like it gain 30hp. It will bark the tires easily now into second, where before it wouldn't at all. I now expect around a 13.4-13.5@103-105mph

Well, tonight I am gonna meet up with a friend at like 2:30 and throw his drag radials on and see if I can stick at a 3 grand launch. I have a stick, and i pound on the gas THROUGH the finish line. BTW, I power shift and shift just as it crosses the yellow.

Ditch the flowmaster, or add a cutout for track use. I think you'll find a good bit of HP there. Other than that, practice your launching.
