Ignition problem
Ignition problem I have a 1996 3.8. This happens ONLY on cold mornings when the car is cold. I put the key in the ignition and turn it on. I would get no power at all until about 10sec. In that time power will come on and off about a few times a second. I can tell by my door chime going in and out real fast. Then when it stops doing that I can start the car no problem. But before that I would have zero power. Won't even try to crank. Nothing. Now I notice my voltage reads 12-13V. This is the first cold morning I had to start the car. Car starts no problem once it's warmed up. Voltage still low. I had this problem for years. I replaced the alternator and battery 2 years ago. Wires/plus/coils are very new. Maybe a wire not connecting right? Alternator just went out? Alternator going out would explain the low voltage, but what does the alternator have to do with my ignition not getting any power at all when turned on cold? Anyone have any ideas?
Re: Ignition problem Is there no power to anything at all cold or just no power to ignition switch controlled componets? Either you got a poor battery cable connection or a For the latter a ignition switch problem.

Re: Ignition problem If it's just ignition switch controlled componets that are unpowered w/cold , I'd start with the switch & harness. Does it have any power at all to anything at all when this problem occurs?

Update. I'm pretty sure it's a bad connection somewhere. After driving for a while I let the car sit for just over 3 hrs and when I got back, the radio's memory was reset and showed 3 o'clock on it. And the CD was out. The only time that happens is when I remove the - battery cable and put it back real fast a few times. So there has to be a bad connection. I'm just going to get new battery wires and make sure I get good connections. If this doesn't work I'll repost.
