My engine is overheating!!! Need some help...! I have a 98 Z28, A4. Anyways, my engine just recently (a few days ago) started running warmer than usual, but in the acceptable range. Tonight after work, the needle kept going and going and pegged out. My car turned off twice. I make it to the driveway and I can hear knocking sounds from the engine bay. I am not sure if it was the engine knocking, because I when I turned it off, I still heard it (almost boiling water sound). Not too sure....stuck thermostat? The dex cool in there looks to be non existent, so I put some distilled water in there....still overheats. Someone give me some ideas please!
Re: My engine is overheating!!! Need some help...! Yikes, you kept driving the car with the temp gauge pegged? Hopefully you didn't toast something bad, but it's pretty likely you did. The bubbling is likely the coolant in your radiator/overflow boiling. Are your fans coming on? How's the coolant level? Let the car warm up past t-stat opening temp (195 usually) with the radiator cap off and see if the radiator has fluid in it (after the t-stat opens). If not, fill it up. Any leaks?
For future note, if you peg the temp gauge, shut the car off and tow it. You could easily save a motor by doing this, for such a small hassle.

Re: My engine is overheating!!! Need some help...! Well, I was real close to home....I took the chance. I found out that my thermostat had locked close. Couldn't get another thermostat, so I am running without one now and it runs real cool.
