Re: What is this? As I understand it, the AIR pump pumps fresh air into the exhaust manifolds under cirtain conditions (cold start of engine) to help the cats get up to operating temp quicker and do their job.
In the "old" days, this was driven off a pulley with a belt similar to how the alternator is driven. Now it uses an electric motor so no engine power is lost turning the pump. I say leave it unless you're building a race only car.
