Default Shorty headers

I've heard shorty headers aren't worth the money for our cars but I am still interested. Will a good set like JBA make any difference sound wise? I'm not really looking for a big performance gain with them, and I don't think I want to relocate the cats or change y pipe. Anyone here tried shorties? I have a vortex muffler but otherwise stock exhaust right now. I'd be happy with a cleaner sound even if I only gain 5 hp or so. I think the dealer up here will be ok with them. Any responses appreciated.

I was going to go the shortie route also but, couldn't justify paying the $600+ for the JBAs. I am planning to add LTs in the future. When I had my H/C package installed I had my manifold's port matched and Extrude Honed for around $400. Having the '01 manifolds Rick (at Extrude Hone) says it should be worth 8-10 hp. How true is it? Can't confirm, but it can't hurt...

By the way, I have an extra set of '01 manifolds with a few thousand miles (less than 5K) on them for sale if you're interested .

Performance wise.. the JBA's or any other shorty are a waste of money IMO... especially on a newer cast mainfolds car... they flow very well.

Ok, thanks for the info on the stock manifolds. Will the shorties improve the exhaust note? Long tubes are not an option for me at this time, but if shorties will improve sound a little that's all I want. Thanks again for the replies.

They're not much different from LT's, but provide excellent ground clearance and are IMO the best bang-for-your-buck headers out there next to Hookers. You can get them AND the ypipe for $499 from ls1speed.com . thats the route i'm going in the spring

Shorties aren't worth the money not to mention the time and effort installing.

I don't think long tubes are for everyone. My goal was an "old man" setup combining performance with comfort and driveability, kind of how the Z06 comes from the factory. I didn't want the loud resonance/rasp of LT'S, or the clearance issues.
I picked up my coated Hooker shorties for about 300 bucks. They were easy to install, did give my exhaust a bit deeper tone, and added off-idle torque, no doubt due to the 1 5/8" primaries. I can't tell you how much HP I gained from the shorties alone, but my other mods and overall results are below. Hope this helps.
