Default New guy to LS1Tech needs help! Please help!

Hey guys, I'm new to the board and was hoping you guys wouldn't mind me asking you a redundant question. I really need live feedback to this question. I'm new to this whole modding thing and I just ordered some Hooker LT's for my 99 Z-28. What I want is a Y-pipe with cats so that the sound is cleaner and I can pass inspection. I hear that an ORP has rasp and echoes alot. Is there anyway I could take my stock cats and place them on a fabricated y-pipe? Or do I need to buy a Mufflex or some other brand pipe and buy some Carsound cats to weld onto it? Please excuse the redundancy of this question.
Thanks,
Sam

Check some of the sponsors, Dont put the stock cats on, because you would go from a 3inch collector to a 2.5inch cat, that would kill your hp, just get some high flow cats on a mufflex Ypipe, they are really good! thats just my opinion.

From what I larned on this board is that if you have LT's it is ilegal, hey are for off road purposes only.
Anyways now to the real question, visually you can not pass an emmisions test, because you cat has been moved. BUT you can pass the tecnical test where they stick that stupid thing in your exhaust. So my advice is to buy a set of car sound or random tech cats. I read somewhere that Random Techs flow a little better. Just have a shop weld in the cats into the Y.
Also there are some other things you need too, so you don't throw any codes(SES Lights) or something like that.
Lastly, I believe for Hookers, you should have your car tuned for maximum performance.

get a cat-shell and run straight pipe through it to pass visual test for a convertor i don't think the authorities will know where the factory cat was. ls1's can pass emissions tests in all states except california without cats or so i've been told. find someone with an emissions testor and see if it will pass without cats before hand to be safe though. perhaps you'll only have to get 1 cat and then have a dummy cat on the other side. regardless you should get o2 simms to keep the codes from being thrown.

Do like others said. Weld Random Tech cats onto the Y. Not only will you pass inspection, it will sound MUCH better. Of course you lose like 2hp Great first mod BTW.

The shop that built my exhaust system took the stock cats, cut the 2 1/4" inlet and outlet off, opened them up to 3" in and out, and welded 3" pipe directly to them.

Same cat, but now 3" in and out, for "free"!
