Default Question about chirpping problem

There is a chirpping sound coming from the accessory belt area. It is not the belt or tensioner, because I have replaced both with no luck. It sounds like it is coming from the bottom near the alternator. It is louder at start up and lessen after the car is warm. It gets faster under throttle. This is possiblly the most annoying sound while driving. The car is running fine other than the sound. Any information would be appreciated.

I believe I have the same problem. It's not the tensioner like Drew siad, it's coming from the alternator area. I have a torque strap down on the alternator bracket, and I thought it might be touching the belt, but it's clear.
It sounds terrible when idling though <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

I posted on a topic that is somewhat related to this topic earlier today. Do a search in the external engine section and use the title: Engine chirping.

My wife's car had all the symptoms that your car has and all it ended up being was the accessory belt.

Hope that helps

Thanks, I am going to try and use the TSB#s given in the other post. I hope this works. Like someone in the other post said, it is almost embarrassing to drive.

This is a common problem, one that GM knows about. There is a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) on this problem. TSB 00-06-01-008 of MAR 00 states that:
"Cause: The serpentine belt squeak/chirp noise may be caused by misalignment between the idler pulley and the crankshaft pulley. A slight rocking motion of the idler pulley causes the misalignment, which results in noise."

"Correction: To correct this condition on vehicles built prior to the VIN breakpoint (VIN breakpoint Y2107225 with 5.7L V8 Engine) install the new generator bracket, double row idler pulley and serp. belt..."

"Important: This new generator bracket can be identified by the depth of the idler pulley mounting pilot. The pilot dimension on the new generator bracket is 10 mm. The previous bracket was 8.3 mm."

The new parts that you need are PN# 12563326 Double Row Idler Pulley Assembly, PN# 12563327 Generator Bracket, & PN# 12562626 Serpentine Belt.
