Odd Noises....

Odd Noises.... Hey guys just got some quick questions for yall. If anyone has had these sounds would you please tell me what you think. All of these noises are pretty new just from the last month or 2. I guess my car is just gettin old, 78,000 miles, but still STRONG!
1. First off at idle when my car is just sitting in my drive way my fuel pump or something from that area around the back of the car is making weird loud whineing noises. If i rev up my engine it goes away and it doesnt do it all the time. Just at idle and not that often.
2. Someting under the hood - can not pin point the whine, and again only at idle - but this noise happens while stopped at red lights also. It goes away as soon as i take off or rev the engine. I did the trick where i held a short staff to all the components under the hood and the other end to my ear to hear if anything sounded off, but everything is fine - as far as i can tell. IT IS LOUD AND EMBARASSING. I have no money to waist on a mechanic if i can find it and fix it myself.
