A friend of mine has an off road H on his stang and got pulled over several times for speeding or peeling out and the cop asked him if the exhaust system was legal and he said no. the cop didn't do anything about it.

if you're really worried about it, you can always get some 12in bullett mufflers and put them where the cats would go.

most of the time you will be just fine, but i'm just telling you my experiences. I have been pulled over many many times and almost every time i was not hassled.

But i did have on instince where the cop pulled out the mirrior and checked the underside of my car looking for cats.

I had a cop get under my car when i was running my exhaust dumped at the rear axle with no mufflers or cats.

He came up to my window and said "I don't understand why yer' cars' so loud sir, you seem to be legal with your cats and mufflers.."

I was shocked to say the least. I drove off thinking "what a dumbass"

What if you just claim you bought the car as it is and didn't modify anything on it? "Your honor, I dont know a thing about cars. It passed the emision test, so I assumed it had cats"

Cats? what is that? are those those things in my storage shed? if i go to Commiefornia on vacation again, i might put the shell of the stock cats around my duals somehow, but i doubt it. The cops around here don't give tickets to cars that smoke so much u can't see behind them sometimes, nevermind a catless T/A with dumped duals and F13

Holy crap! Are you sure about that? I heard it was $1,500 a cat, but $15,000! So how did your friend ONLY have to pay $11,000 instead of $30,000? $30,000 is highway robbery!

dayum, thats a lot for these tickets. I know the county that i'm in is one of the worst in the nation for strict cops. That is a fact. It's Williamsom county in TX. I was pulled over for no front plate...got a warning and the cop said that my car sounding great and to get on it pulling away! I have stock manifolds and cats with a cat back and an electric cutout that was open at the time. I tried to close it, but the gears were aligned right to close it.

Looked @ these links and didn't see anywhere where it talked about fines. So I'm assuming it is up to each state to levy fines for removing cats? Correct?
