The more I read about these things, the more I become convinced that they help to extend engine life...or at least allow the engine to run smoother. My set-up, and a few questions:
Diamond Racing forged custom flat-top pistons...3.905" bore X 4.00" stroke
4.00" stroke Eagle 4340 forged stroker crank
Callies Compstar 6.125" forged H-beam rods
F.A.S.T. intake w/90mm T/B
Kooks long-tube headers
Comp custom ground XER cam 234*/240*, .589/.609, 112* LSA
AFR 225cc Mongoose heads
Spec Stage IV clutch/pressure plate
Spec billet steel flywheel
'03 Z06 MAF
ARP main studs
Durabond coated cam bearings
Federal Mogul main bearings/Calico coated
Clevite H series rod bearings/Calico coated
ORY
Comp Hi-Tech chromemoly pushrods
Comp Hi Energy Hyd Roller Lifters
I was thinking about getting the TCI Rattler harmonic balancer. Do I need an aftermarket balancer with the above set-up? If so, will it fit over the Eagle crank snout? Lastly, is all the tech data I read about aftermarket balancers true, or just "advertising hype"?

Most ppl buy the aftermarket balancer for the underdrive action. Frees up a noticeable bit of power. I don't know if they are better or worse than the stock for harmonics though. Keep in mind that many ppl have run the asp or powerbond pullies with no problem. The aftermarket stuff will fit over the eagle.
