Default FLP headers with stock cat-back - no gain???

I just installed a set of FLP headers and y-pipe (with cats) but used the factory stock cat-back muffler system.

Before the headers, I also installed 85-MAF, LS6 intake, ported TB, cold air package, straight tubes, air lid, etc.

I was surprised at how little increase the LT headers made - although the car is louder, I don't believe it is significantly faster with the headers.

Is the factory cat-back muffler a significant restriction in the exhaust system that is limiting the full potential of the headers?

if it's a non-ss/ws6 stock catback, it is QUITE restrictive. I never really ran through my stock exhaust though, but the times I did cap it up, it was horrible. (I had a cutout installed almost immediately after I bought the car). I kept it with the cutout open 99.99% of the time until I did a cam and put in the Off Road Pipes. The cutout was extremely loud after that point, I tried capping up the cutout and running through stock exhaust and the car just did NOT want to rev, the low end picked up quite a bit, but it would start nosing over about 1000-1500rpm earlier than it did with the cutout open.

I ended up cutting off my stock exhaust and putting on a borla. It runs Wide Open all the time. If I did it all over again (and I may yet), I'd probably have gone with the SLP Loudmouth instead. Though knowing I can cut the volumn whenever I want is nice.

It should be pointed out too that adding long tube headers will usually make your car run pig rich - so until you address that (if you haven't already) then your power gain will be much less than it should be.

P.S. I LOVE my Borla+FLP's too! <img border="0" alt="[devil]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_devil.gif" />

When I put the FLP's on my 2000 SS, I picked up 20 hp, still running the stock mufler. The tone was deeper, but other than that, no one could tell much difference.
