Default Are all lids created equal?

Is there an actual difference in the MTI lid and the SLP lid or just preference?

Pretty much a toss-up. Look at a few in person and buy the one that appears to be the sturdiest as they all make about the same power.

I think they are all the same....they serve the same purpose....it just depends on which oe you like.....I chose the clear lid from mti because of the cool look....I saw it on a friends and I liked the way it looked!!!....they also have the carbon design....which is a glossier finish and then you have the regular black plastic one....its up to you!!!!!

Go with SLP. They are on holiday special for 89. and I think they are made of a better grade plastic (more flexible than the MTI (I have had both). But yes they all make the same power.

I have the SLP lid too and got a great deal on it. It is well made and it made a big difference in throttle response.

Get which one is cheaper and looks good. If there is any difference then it will only be 1 hp difference and that is made up by how the car reacts to the mod, the driver, and tuning, so just pick the one you like cause its one of the first things people will notice under your hood.

I get about 20 degrees higher IAT numbers than it really is outside with my SLP lid. That affects WOT a/f and can affect timing too when it really gets hot. I wonder if all lids do the same.

Is the LS1 Motorsports logo on the Direct Flo lid just a decal? No offense to Rob & co., but I want a plain black lid.

I have an MTI lid and wish that I had paid $10 or so more for another brand after getting it and comparing to others on different cars.
Fit and quality in general are poor IMO. I have had a few problems with getting it to fit properly.

It doesn't effect WOT O2 readings though (not in my testing at least.) To lessen this effect get a Fast Toys Ram Air kit to go with your lid. You can also control what your PCM reads as your intake air temperature with a simple resistor placed in the harness where it would normally plug into the IAT sensor.

IAT Sensor Resistor values
5k = 78*
4.9k = 71*
4.8k = 64*
4.7k = 57*
4.6k = 50*

As you can see, each tenth makes 7 degrees difference. I believe you want it at least as low as 57 degrees for max timing advance.

My favorite lid is the MTI clear lid. Looks cool when plumbed with nitrous jets. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" /> Also looks nice with a K&N or Holley filter underneath.

What ever lid you get just don't get a Whisper. Mine has been sucking unfilter air for three years. I just determined that it has a design flaw. The fitler does not sit on the sealing surfact in the neck area. This surface is short and the filter falls off. Feels like it fits great too until you look inside the neck with a mirror.

My GMS lid is probably the worst fitting lid that I have ever seen. The quality is second to all. I highly recomend the SLP lid over the Granitelli lid, my friends SLP lid fits A LOT better.
