Default Eliminating the cats

I'm set on buying LT headers in the spring for a 2002. I'm considering the QTP's, especially because of the dual electric cutouts in the Y-pipe. Of course, this eliminates the cats.

I do not presently live in an emissions testing area, but that may not always be the case.

1) If I move to someplace that tests for emissions, am I going to have to go back to cats, at least for the test?

2) I'll always live in the north-central part of the country, so which states are friendly, and which are not to cars with ORP?

3) Any side effects besides a change in exhaust tone and odor? How significant or bad are those effects?

4) Tell me I shouldn't feel guilty for removing the cats, even though the car isn't a daily driver, but just a weekend toy.

1)Depends on how they test for emissions. They just changed here in Houston, if you have a 96' or newer they just scan your car's computer for codes. If the car is older than 96' they put the sniffer up the tail pipe and put it on a dyno. Crazy huh?
But thats why I went with FLP headers, so I can put the cats on for inspection, and then put the race pipes back on.
If you have to have an emissions test down the road then get some high flow cats and have an exhaust shop make you a custom y-pipe just for inspection time.

2)Sorry I can't help you with that one.

3)POWER!!!

4) Ok you shouldn't feel guilty . Now I haven't seen this first hand but I've heard of some cars without cats passing emissions.
But like you said it's a weekend toy and they are far worse cars on the road smogging up the air.

Peace,
Craig.

I just passed their little test with a few things deleted. LS1Edit or o2 simms work just fine.

Peace,
Craig.

Memphis is planning to change to the "plug-in" inspection in the next few years and I'm curious about something.

If you removed the cats, and installed O2 simms, wouldn't that fool the emissions computer just like it fools the car's computer?

Also ... yes ... a car *can* pass emissions without cats in place. Here in Memphis, cars go through the sniffer with no cats and can pass if everything else is still in good working order.
