Default catback

If running longtubes is there a disadvantage to running the stock catback on a 02ss. The y pipe is 3" and the stock catback is 2.75. Tia..

I have mac headers and off road y-pipe with a custom 3" intermediate pipe that connects to a stock '02 SS muffler and tailpipe assembly. I've heard from others who spent $500+ on a borla cat-back with the wide open insert and he said that he gained an extra .08--so it's up to you if it's worth the money to gain about a tenth and 1-2 mph. I haven't ran this at the track yet but it should gain 3 to 5-tenths over the stock exhaust.

Hope this helps,
Brandon

May not seem like a big deal intially, but down the road you will replace it.. nature of the beast. Your best bet when you have taken the time to do the headers is to replace all the stock crap. You will do it most likely in the long run..

Depends on were that 3-5 tenths or 1-2 mph gain is being made..Thats a huge diffence on the race track and some spend alot of money to get those kind of gains. If your driving the milk wagon to work, dont put headers on it and waste your money leaving the stock crap that is restriced. This comes down to what modifications you start with and what gains your trying to achieve. Opionion's everyone has one.

Your muffler is far more restrictive than the mandrel bent, stainless steel, 2.75" exhaust pipes.
Replace the muffler with a proven high flow piece and you will do just fine.
I did so and make as much power as similarly modded cars with expensive cat-backs. Dyno proven on the same day, same dyno.
Another thing, some SS cars came with a 3" I-pipe, it was an option. You may or may not have that option already... Even if you do, replace the muffler only.
Good luck
Dave
