Default Question about the Grott style headers and Cats

I'm planning on doing full exhaust to the car relatively soon. I was wanting to go with a Corsa cat-back and Grotts. I'm not sure if I want to run cats or not since there's no emission testing where I live. Are their any pros and cons about having cats, do they help with getting rid of the "rasp"? Also will I have problems running O2 sims if I don't run cats?

Also is there any difference what-so-ever between the headers offered by those who supply it other than emissions fittings and being coated and un coated?

Ill try to help out somewhat, Ive know cats just to act as a filter for the exhaust.. does nothing but restrict flow, if you take off the cats, you will be somewhat faster.. and I think the coated headers reduce headers heat..

There are obviously a lot more experienced people out there than us, but see if this helps you. A lot of people who go with ORP's say that they have a rasp and a smell of unburned fuel. That is the purpose of cats is to burn off that stuff that smells because it is obviously a pollutant. They do affect the sound of the exhaust too. I am about to go with some QTP headers with my corsa and am going to go with cats. I just have to find out some way to get the cut outs in there. Cats do create some restriction and you will have less hp with cats vice ORP's. But if you don't want the rasp or the smell (basically if your car is a daily driver) then you probably want cats.

Yes, my car is a daily driver.
I've heard and read that Random Tech cats are the best flowing, I know that they would cause a restriction but also how much of a HP loss would I be looking at running cats vs not running cats?

Whether you have a rasp without cats or not largely depends on what kind of header, Y-pipe, and especially what kind of muffler you're running.

My setup without cats has absolutely NO rasp and I haven't noticed any gas rich smell either.

QTP headers
QTEC electric cuttout
STOCK Z28 muffler

That's it. No bullet mufflers, no cats, and NO rasp. I love being able to dial in how much sound I want with the electric cuttout too.
