Default ??true Duals??

Hey, I want to put TRUE DUALZ on my 98 Z28 but don't know where to go. I basically want to go with an X pipe (?3" or 2.5"?) with elctronic cut outs and a pipe w/ 2 flanges so i can bolt on cats for inspection. I would like to run the pipes over the axle because I plan on lowering the car. I like the sound of SLP LM. Also how good are Hooker Comp Hdrs? And y do so many use Pacesetter? Thankz

pacesetters are easy to install from what i hear. As far as true duals tsp makes a kit but they don't go out the back. You can add tail pipes that do though.

Hooker headers are not the most popular brand out there. Pace setter's are so popular because they are the best bang for the buck. A pair of ceramic coated Pace setters is around 380. I am unaware of any True Dual kit that you can buy that runs to the rear of the vehicle. Since you are already planning on cutouts and flanges your best bet is probally to get the Pace Setter LT's and then go to an exhaust shop and have them fab the rest with the mufflers of your choice.

Engrish anyone?

A custom job is what you need. Pacesetters are so popular because they kick ***. Not really any reason to get any other non-stainless header over them. They look nice, cost less, work great, and fit awesome. True duals over the axle is a PITA. If you're lowering the car, you might as well run under the axle, as you'll have just as much clearance as where it has to run under the body. When you lower the car, the rear end rides really high in the car and removes valuable space for the duals to run.

Check the link in my sig for some ideas. I also plan on having some cat-delete sections fab'd up as well.

Running dual cutouts on a true dual system is like putting a screen door on a submarine.

Save yourself $300-400 and don't do cutouts on a 3" dual system. Unless you are making over 800 HP. That money could buy almost everything needed from the headers back.

Thankz for the help guyz. So I should run Pacesetter Hdrs to an X pipe with NO cutouts? I don't understand why cutoutz would robb power or b useless....I thought u would gain power out of cutouts. And are SLP Resonators or Mufflers a good way to go? 3" or 2.5" piping due to clearance and power? Thankz Guyz keep your advice Rollin.

Because the gain that you're going to get from cutouts on a free-flowing true dual system is going to be very very minimal. IE, not worth the cost and hassle with clearance. The lm1 and lm2 mufflers will be very loud and free flowing on a dual setup. If you're going all the way out the back, 2.5" is easier. Three inch can and has been done, but it's tougher. You can always go 3" to the x pipe and neck down to 2.5" for over the axle. I recommend doing some searching in this section for "true duals". The last thread on this was posted less than 8 hours ago and you'll have ~300 threads to read through. You'll find wealths of information and pictures of people's setups and you can compare and decide what's best for you.

9 out of 10 exhaust shops will tell you that it's impossible to do it. You'll likley either need to have a custom job done at a performance shop, or do it yourself. It's really not hard to do yourself either. I did mine by myself in my garage with the car only about 2 inches off the ground in the front, and it goes all the way to the rear axle. I think it cost me about $210 total, with $160 of that being the mufflers

definantly, the gains from the cutouts would be minimial with a true dual free flowing exhaust. Mufflers on a 2.5 or 3" system are very open, especially bullet styled mufflers. The gains you would see would be very VERY minimal.
