Over-oiled K&N filter, what problems???
What problems would an over-oiled K&N filter cause? I've got some recent idle problems and I'm thinking that the K&N might be the source. Basically my idle is rough and when I come to a stop (clutch in) with the a/c on, the idle drops to like 500 for a second and then comes back up.
Thanks,

This led to a problem of lagging response and a jerky acceleration right afterwards. I freaked and parked the car at my girlfriends a few miles later. Gave it a couple of hours to wick and dry some more, drove it the three miles back home, and took the filter back out of the car. Looking at the MAF, saw some of the oil had made it up the intake as far as the screen, and probably the sensor behind it as well. I cleaned the screen with a shop rag and used some paper towels to soak up any excess oil or water on the filter. That was about a month ago, and I haven't had a problem with it since that first drive.
Hope this helps, good luck.

Also, exactly what TYPE of problems will the over-oiled K&N display (i.e. surging, stalling, etc.)?
Thanks,

The more I ask around and read about it, the less I think I have an overoiled filter. I'll be checking things out this weekend.
Are the new KN filters pre-oiled?

In the case of our cars, yes (some K&N models are not.) They normally come very lightly oiled which is as they should be.
