Welding on Ceramic Coating??

Default Welding on Ceramic Coating??

If i want to weld something to my header to i have to strip a little part off around where i want to weld? If so, what is the best way to strip it? Doing the job pretty soon, any feedback please!

Just weld it, the coating will come off by itself when it gets hot enough.

wrong... if you weld on top of ceramic coating chances are you wont even strike an arc because your wire wont be touching metal just the ceramic coating (im guessing you are doing this via a mig welder) or if you do it will be really splattery and you wont get any penetration and the weld will be useless and just break off. this is called cold lapping. you always want the base metal to be clean especially with a mig welder.

99camarols1m6 is right. If it's ANYTHING like welding galvanized steel, you'll definatly need to grind down a bit on the section you're welding.

You'll probably end up with a bunch of rabbit-turds if you try to weld through the coating.

it is a mig welder, but what will i have to use to grind down the coating?

nvm, i just used some medium grit sandpaper to shave off the coating

sandpaper could work but sometimes those coatings are pretty touch unlike paint. you could use a dremel with a sanding wheel. a grinder with a flap sanding disk on it. an electric sander. and maybe a high speed drill with a wire brush on it.

i just had to but some elbow grease into it but the coating came off and the weld went on great
