Picked up the intake from a friend...but it has the EGR provision and no way to block it off. It is very precisely machined as if to accomodate a plate on there. Does anyone know of such a thing?

I don't know about an exact block off plate but I have seen a brass plug inserted into the EGR hole. You could probably find one at the local hardware store.
I just got one from the chevy dealership. The plug Fits a 2001 pickup with out egr. They have the part number. It was only $4.00.

I have heard of using the freeze plug, but am looking for something a little more pleasing to the eyes Guess I may have to fab something.

you can do that, or go to autozone and buy a rubber plug that increases in width as you screw it in. i bought the metal plate that dvandertop was selling in the classified parts, and it looks good.
