Default Stock catback: What's the restrictive part?

I want to sell my Borla and go back to the stock Z/28 catback to save money, get rid of rasp, and to add to the sleeper look. If the restrictive part of the catback is the muffler, I can easily change that out. But is it just the muffler or is there any more parts that make it restrictive? If I go back to the stocker but replace the muffler w/ a Magnaflow or something, will I be losing any power over the Borla?

P.S.
What mufflers will fit in the place of the stocker? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

That big honkin muffler. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" /> Actually, its ok on a STOCK car but if you start upgrading your induction(lid, ram air, MAF) you should also upgrade at least the muffler. And the 3" piping from an aftermarket cat-back doesn't hurt. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

For the stock look(but better performance) just replace the OEM muffler with a better one while still using your stock tailpipes and tips) and put a cheap cutout on the OEM I-pipe for that X-tra flow when you need it.

Replacement mufflers consist of Flowmaster, Magnaflow, Hooker, Dynomax, and Spintech that I know of. Flowmaster sounds the best to me but also flows the least of those. BTW, your still going to get that "rasp" with any of these mufflers as long as you run off-road pipes.

Hope that helps,

Mike

I'm not a big fan of cutouts so I won't go that route. So will I lose that much power if I go from Borla to stock catback w/ say a Magnaflow muffler?

borla makes good mufflers now, and they sounded good with the stock T/A cat back.

I think its the Xr1, or Xs, or somethin'

i heard it on a 99 T/A with an airlid

If you want stock, see if SLP has any take-offs from the SS conversions. The SS muffler flowed better than stock and was almost as quiet.
