Default People with Jet Hot headers, need info and help

Hey guys, allright, I ordered the Jet Hot headers, nto the hookers but the revised JET HOT design. I need to knwo what is involved. Will they just slip into my 1998 TA? The guys at Jet Hot said no grinding necessary and no O2 extensions either. Thanks in advance, just let me know any thing I should know when installing these headers. Also, what about the steering linkage? If unbolted, will I need an alignment? Thanks!

If you take all your coil packs and spark plugs out, it makes the job a little less difficult. First raise the car as high as you can. Then, pull your alternator and let it hang. Next, pull the long bolt from your motor mount (drivers). Lift the engine as much as you can. Pull the two bolts above your oil filter, then install the header. Passenger side only takes the removal of the starter. The car has to sit higher for the passenger side though. You will need to extend your O2's about a foot on the passenger side, and 1 1/2' on the drivers. Not too difficult of a job if a friend is there to help. The only adjusting I had to do was take a pry bar to the drivers side to keep it from bumping my K-member. I love the headers though. Don't get discouraged, and DON'T GRIND ANYTHING!!! Also, the EGR and AIR tube holes are not tapped. You'll need washers and nuts. Good Luck. P.S. If you do exactly as I say, you won't need to unbolt the steering Knuckle.

Holy ****, are you seriousk, nobody ever said I had to unbolt all that stuff. Also, I think the Jet Hot guys said that the nut and bolt are included? Is that not true? Thanks!

Also, I heard the 98s and 99s dont need O2 extensions, you just need to reroute the wire to reach? Also, wouldnt it just be eaiser to remove the steering stuff instead of the alternator and all that crap? Thanks! Everyone on ls1.com said the steering linkage is all I think. And maybe the oil diverter plate? Thanks!

Mine's a '99, and I still had to extend the O2's. The nuts and bolts weren't included with my headers, but I got some from the first batch they made. CamminBeaSSt came over to help me install mine, and he's done several header installs (works for an LS1 performance shop). It was the easiest way to install headers. Like I said with 2 sets of hands, this doesn't take anytime at all. You can do a search on this, but you'll find that it just isn't as easy as Jet Hot makes it out to be. They are EXCELLENT HEADERS though.

Both sides on my car went in fine from the bottom and I didn't have to take the motor loose <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> or take the alternator off but I have the Hookers. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
I did take the steering linkage loose but this was not that hard to do. It is very much easier to do if you take the coil packs and plugs and such off like said and as far as bolts and such I just re used my factory stuff. Good luck man.

On my 98, I used the O2 extensions. It looked like a long way to reroute the wires, so I didn't even try.

I think every car is different. I've read numberous posts and they all are different. Some people unbolt motormounts, some don't unbolt anything. I loosened my motormounts and jacked the motor about 3/4" and I took off the oil diverter on the top of the oil filter. I also took off several coil packs and sparkplugs. I didn't take off anything else. The hardest part for me was jacking the car up high enough and cutting the old stock pipes off.

My JHH's and Hooker ORY came with all bolts needed and clamps needed except for the y-pipe to stock exhaust clamp. I didn't like the bolts so I reused the stock header bolts. Also, the clamps weren't sealing good, so I bought several 3" band clamps and exhaust sealer goop to seal the leaks at the joints. As for the non-tapped AIR and EGR pipes, they are a pain. The headers came with bolts for these also, but I used AIR restrictors so I needed longer bolts anyway. Also, don't forget the rear O2 sims.

I had to use a prybar to push the pipes away from the K-member to keep it from banging.

Again, every car is different. You just have to try to install a set to see what all you have to take off. There's nothing under there that's impossible to take off and put back on.
