Default Which Headers?

I'm currently doing a heads/cam on my 2001 M6 SS. I was going to do a poll but need to know what's out there first. My car is lowered about 1.5" with the eibach pro kit so ground clearance is my main concern. I have have SLP SFC's and I have no scrubbing problems there. I'm thinking LT's are out of the question but please let me know if I'm wrong. I've been looking real hard at the MAC mid length package with cats and y-pipe as my only option. The TTS's, QTP's and the FLP's are very attractive but I believe they're all LT's. That's what I've been able to find so far, if you know of another mid length or a set with minimal ground clearance problems I'd love to hear. Thanks

WOW!! That's a sweet looking SS you got there! I love NBM SSs with factory color ZO6 wheels; very sharp

Anyway, on to the question. Most of the headers out there have one issue or another. From what I've seen FLPs seem to offer great ground clearance for an LT, which is key for a lowered car like yours. I personally wouldn't pick FLP for other reasons, but in your case (lowered height) you may have a good reason to.

If you're looking at mids, then also consider Bassani. I have them and love them. Sure, they are more costly than Macs, but you will see why when you compare a set of each

if you decide to go with the macs, consider getting the ORY setup and buying some aftermarket cats. the mac cats are poopy.

Ok, I just checked out the Bassani. Very nice but what did you use to complete the rest of the system? I'm thinking not just any y-pipe and cats will work and I didn't see one listed on the site.

I have a friend with the QTP grotts and he hast absolutly no kind of problems of any sort. The collectors and y are tucked up nicly and the cermetric coating is top notch. When it comes time thats the header that im most likley gona go with , but with the dual cut outs. Another brand that I like are the hookers/jet hot headers, they tuck up nicly also and have a proven design. If you order a set of hookers and dont have any work to do to the yourself, your lucky. One of the most important reasons why im not ordering the hookers is solely on that fact, and the fact that I cant order the y with dual cut outs already on them.

The Bassani's come with ypipe and cats or ypipe and offroad if you want. Check out Thunders site. But, I heard their cats are not the best.

Have you considered jet hot long tubes? I think alot of lowered guys run them, and I've heard QTP's have good clearance on lowered cars too. I really like my TTS's, but they would NOT be good on a lowered car.

Good luck.

The do not need the "Mac Mod" and everything fits nice. Needed one pass side 02 extender.

BooYeah, did you loose any clearance at all? Kinda hard to tell from stock but they look like they tucked up very nice.

as Stang Killer said I run the QTP longtubes with their off-road y-pipe. I'm also on a pro-kit and i really have zero clearance issues unless im just careless and try to go offroading.
I would recommend these headers to anyone because of their availiability, fitment, ease of install, quality of product, options and kit accessories, and on top Barry really is one of the best I've ever dealt with. You can get various options for a y-pipe also from thier catalytic y-pipe to the ORY and ORY with dual cutouts.

Have you ever run cats with this system before? I'm assuming that would most likely be the problem area (correct me if I'm wrong).

I've never really been interested in anything for emissions so my headers are the race style with no AIR and EGR(mine is an 02) provisions. Barry can give you some options however for a catalytic y-pipe and some of the better options out there are the CarSound cats or the Random Tech, although CarSound will outflow these.
Which ever route you decide to take the cats will not be the lowest part of your y-pipe. actually where the flowmaster y-merge pipe is will always be the lowest because it opens for the dual 3" in to the 4" out and then to a 3.5" reducer.
let me know if you have any other questions.
