Header leaks

Header leaks I have a 99 C5, with 1 3/4" stainless steel headers, with a 1/4" flange (from Stainless Works). I've had them for a couple months, and now there is a small leak underneath each front cylinder location, where the flange meets the cylinder head. There is a little line of soot visible on the head. I think the leak is throwing off my O2 sensors, and making the car run rich. I won't know for sure until I stop the leak, and see if the car stops running rich.
Anyone have advice on the best way to fix the header leaks? What gasket, what sealant, and what should I torque it to? Any other tips you have would be great.
A guy at the exhaust shop said that I should cut the flange in half, right down the middle between the pair of bolts between the middle two cylinders. Doing something similar on his SBC (with bolts in different places, so the cuts were different) was the only thing he could do to stop his leaks. I'd like to avoid doing that, if possible.
