Default Headers

Ok .... with my tax return money i want to buy headers. But my dad says that i cant because they are not worth the money and are more trouble than the horsepower gain i would get. And being that I'm 17 and bought my own car my dads name is on the title so until i get it in my name i cant do what i want with it. I was wondering if you guys could write something and tell what was up with them to maybe change his mind. Any help is greatly appreciated

Perhaps Dad feels you have enough HP?! At 17 you have quite the car, but If there is one mod thats adds HP and "cool sound" the headers are a mod you wont lose money on. You can always tyake them off and get a few bucks for them...in fact , you may want used ones...show dad you are fiscally responsible!
Remember this, if dad was cool enough to co-sign on a LS1, he will do so much for you in the future...don't wreck it over 10-20 HP. I'd push hard for Nitrous and then settle on headers....the art of negotiation is fun and rewarding.

Yea my dad is a really cool guy to help me do all this. But he used to have a T/A an old one,and he tried to put headers on it and he keeps telling me that he had to get all these custom made parts because the headers wouldnt clear the starter and after that was fixed he had a couple more problems i dont remember. He told me also that there wasnt even a real horsepower gain from them so..... thnx for the advice

What other mods do you have, go with the other bolt ons besides headers to hold you untill the car is in your full name. If that dosent help use the bottle excuse and settle on headers

Hey jbh10
Im 17 and I got a 99 T/A. What's your set up? Is it stock? I dunno how much youve worked on cars, but I'd do some research on headers(ive found hooker to be th most trouble free), go out and work a deal, and find a friend and put em on. I am in the process of doin that. What year was your dads car? O ya, you cant just throw headers on and expect big gains, you will get some, you gotta get more air in at the same time (K&N filter, whisper lid, bellows, TB, MAF) All those with headers and ORY and youll wish you had Nittos. <--o wait we are only 17

My current Mods are K&N FIPK, SLP MAF, Corsa Exhaust. Pro 5.0 Short shifter, 373's ,center force dual friction clutch, Hypertech PPIII. Yea I've worked on it enough that i have an idea about what im doing, if not i figure it out as i go. The mods i've done i did my self so far even though they werent that hard except for gears n clutch. But it helps when you have access to a lift. i dont remember what year my dads T/A is i think around a 76. But thnx for all the info

Like Rice Burner said, the Hoooker Headers and their ORY are the easiest to put on. From what I hear, it only takes about 6 hours to due.
