Flowmaster Drone??
I had planned on buying a GMMG for the newer car, but my wife decided to surprise me and got a Flowmaster catback. What was I to do! So, I put it on. It went on nice, no banging or problems with anything hitting. However, this exhaust has a terrible drone to it. I just can't stand getting on it. It is nothing like the older Flowmaster in the 2000.
Why is it different? Could it be the cam change made on the 2001's? Could it be because the new system is the full catback system as opposed to just the muffler? Would a bigger cam help or hurt (more flow better?). What about headers? Will this fix it?
Does anybody with the GMMG have any drone? Should I just get that?
Thanks!!
Brian
And no, the cat-back shouldn't really be much louder (maybe a bit because of the slightly larger I-pipe used: 3" vs 2.75"). But the Flowmaster should drone only in the 1800-2200rpm range. The stock cam difference between an '00 & '01 is not going to change the tone any (in fact, it's actually milder for the '01).
Sorry, don't really have any answer why? Do you have cats on the car? Can't think of any other your new cat-back would drone so badly...

For the drone check for leaks or vibes out system and how the tips are sitting. I would start there, the next step might be getting sound and heat shielding add to the already tight areas.
