Default Flowmaster Drone??

I recently replaced my stolen 2000 Trans Am with a 2001 WS6 Trans Am that only had 10,000 miles on it. As such, it was completely stock, which is what I wanted. I had forgotten how quiet the stock exhaust was, as my previous car had a flowmaster muffler (not the whole catback). But, the 2000 sounded great and I never had any drone inside.

I had planned on buying a GMMG for the newer car, but my wife decided to surprise me and got a Flowmaster catback. What was I to do! So, I put it on. It went on nice, no banging or problems with anything hitting. However, this exhaust has a terrible drone to it. I just can't stand getting on it. It is nothing like the older Flowmaster in the 2000.

Why is it different? Could it be the cam change made on the 2001's? Could it be because the new system is the full catback system as opposed to just the muffler? Would a bigger cam help or hurt (more flow better?). What about headers? Will this fix it?

Does anybody with the GMMG have any drone? Should I just get that?

Thanks!!

The 3" Flowmaster American Thunder cat-back system for the LS1's supposedly uses the EXACT same 80 series crossflow muffler as the one used for muffler only replacements for any '82-'02 F-body.

And no, the cat-back shouldn't really be much louder (maybe a bit because of the slightly larger I-pipe used: 3" vs 2.75"). But the Flowmaster should drone only in the 1800-2200rpm range. The stock cam difference between an '00 & '01 is not going to change the tone any (in fact, it's actually milder for the '01).

Sorry, don't really have any answer why? Do you have cats on the car? Can't think of any other your new cat-back would drone so badly...

headers im pretty sure will only make it drone louder, thats what flowmaster is good for. also gmmg is a droneless catback to my understanding. if you have the money get it.

I wish I could have kept my loudmouth with LTs/ORY it was awesome, talk about in car drone, this flowmaster sounds good but I'm having problems with the fit on my ypipe.

For the drone check for leaks or vibes out system and how the tips are sitting. I would start there, the next step might be getting sound and heat shielding add to the already tight areas.

Yeah, I am going to try and re-adjust the muffler/pipe/tips to see if that will change the tone. It just doesn't sound good. My old Flowmaster was awesome and I really didn't care about the flow issues or leaving horsepower on the table. I liked it for the sound. But, this one sucks.
