Default Which Cat-back?

I am trying to decide which cat-back:
-Hooker
-Edelbrock Performer RPM
-GMMG

I don't like the raspy sound of the loudmouth or the Borla. I know Flowmaster flows like crap.

The GMMG sounds awesome, but big $'s!

I thought of buying a used loudmouth and replacing the resonator with a chambered muffler or Dynomax racing bullet from Summit.

Any help for me?

I just put the Hooker cat-back on yesterday, it sounds NICE. Not loud at all, but a throatier sound, deeper. I need to get some headers, ORY, and a cam to liven it up a bit.

Have you listened to any of the sound files online? There are plenty. That's how I decided on the Hooker, I thought it sounded the best. Plus it comes with the dual dual chrome tips, which I wanted.

I have the Edelbrock catback and a freind has the Hooker catback . Go with Hooker, it will make more power with a throaty sound. The edelbrock does sound good though, very deep and crisp with very little rasp with the macs and oryp. I lost 18 hp through the muffler though over the cutout. A freind with Hooker only lost 3 hp through the muffler with more power than me.

i put the loudmouth on a month ago. the sound is great. it does have the 2500 rpm drone that everyone talks about. i might put the dynomax in the place of the resonator this spring.

Another vote for hooker. I bought mine a little over a year ago, and I'm still very happy with it.

I've heard the GMMG, and yeah, it sounds nice, but way to expensive for me.

I haven't heard the edelbrock, but I'm not a big fan of edelbrock's products (except their intake manifolds...non ls1 obviously)

I bought the GMMG about 8 months ago. I am very happy with this exhaust. No drone, nice deep rumble to it. I can't wait to get headers and cam in this thing. The only thing I would change about it is to make it louder.

If ya got the money, I highly recommend the GMMG.

You can't beat the hooker system for the performance, sound and especially the price! Mine sounds great. Just installed it 2 weeks ago. No rasp or annoying drone with slp hedders and oryp.

I've had three different exhaust set-ups, and the Hooker is my favorite. It was also the cheapest, so that's pretty cool.

It sounds great, none of that Loudmouth inside Drone, and you can spend the money you save on other mods.

I will throw my vote in for the Hooker. Installed in early Jan 03 with great results.
I wanted something not overly loud but with an agressive tone, and good flow numbers.
Hooker has a nice deep tone, but not setting off car alarms and attacting the local PD.
Also picked up 17 HP at the rear wheels.
Good luck with your choice.

TRUE DUALS!!!

For real though... Before I went true duals I had the Hooker. Great sound, great flow, good looking tips. You won't regret it.

MAGNAFLOW rules only 1 rwhp between it and a cutout

Has anyone done dyno testing vs stock with other catbacks? I don't care for 3" round tail pipes, seem a little to redneck looking for me. Reminds me of all the Ford and Chevy pickups around here. I had a Borla and loved it but I can't see forking the jack for it again. What about the old school slp two pipes out driver side? Any hp gain? How much gain from the Hooker?

I had the Hooker on my 99 TA. I just couldn't bring myself to spend a ton of money on a catback, just to bypass it at the track. But I did have the desire to have a nice throaty sound on the street. The Hooker was a great fit for my needs. And the fact that the muffler/tips can be disconnected via a 3-bolt flange in about 10 minutes (dropping weight and eliminating the need for a cutout at the track) made it even more of a steal.

Thanks for all of the input!!

Looks like the Hooker wins it for me - I like no drone and 17 HP!

I don't want to spend the money that the GMMG costs!

Consider the Random Tech Catback. It has a straight thru type muffler and flows great. You won't need a cutout with this.
I got mine almost two years ago at Thunder Racing for about $320.

Another vote for Magnaflow here...only 1-2rwhp loss between cutout and the 3" Magnaflow exhaust, I used my stock SS tips. Nice deep throaty exhaust note down low, screams up top when you get on it, no drone at all.
