LS1/6 Power Steering Pump/Pulley Install

I just destroyed a brand new GM power steering pump from a C5 by tapping the pulley on with a block of wood and hammer. Apparently that is a $202 mistake I will not make again. The pump is locked up and the back of the casting actually broke. What is the correct way to install the pulley after the pump is installed on the engine (bolts are hidden by pulley).

Go to autozone and rent a power steering pump pulley installer/puller. This is the correct way to remove and install it.

joshp is correct. install the pump on the engine with the resevoir already installed and then using the bolt and nut with a bearing from the install/puller kit put the pulley on.
