"Zed" cutout question

For those of you that have a "Zed" style cutout (right before the muffler) ...what size header collecter did you use? I know the pipe is 3in...but is a 3in collecter to big to cut a hole for? Do I need a 2.5in?

I used a 3" cutout when I had the Zed style even though the exhaust is really 2.75" diameter pipe. I think 2.5" would be somewhat restrictive compared to a 3" cutout.
