My car is making a weird noise when I let it idle. I crawled under the car to listen an thought had a major problem but I found out it was the pulley next to the alternator. I sprayed it with wd-40 and it stoped. Then it will start back. My question is has anybody else had a problem with their alternator pulley making noise? How long can I let this go before something is damaged. Thanks in advance.

 

Are you sure it's not the serpentine belt? How many miles on the belt? WJ. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

 

Belt is only a couple months old. Could I have put it on a little wrong. Any thoughts.

I just took my car in for the same thing, they have to replace a belt, a idler tentioner and bracket because my car was sqeaking so loud at idle and when i accelerated i started to get embarrased to drive it.
