Default Proform Valve Covers?

In this months Jegs catalog on page 178-P, there are some vavle covers made by Proform. They look pretty nice. But, the add says they will work for TPI, LT1, LS1, or '87-later SB GM V8s. Is this possible? I didn't think that LS1 parts were compatable with SBC parts like the LT1s are, in any way.

Add reads:

"Premium die-cast aluminum, tall style valve cover manufactured with internal oil drippers and GM-designed baffles. Center bolt hold-down style. Includes mounting bolts and washers."

I called Jegs and asked about them fitting LS1s, so the guy I spoke with called the manufacturer and confirmed that they DO fit.

Has anyone bought these yet or have any experience with them you could share. At $129.99 for black coated valve covers, they seem like a nice alternative to the more expensive ones on the market.

Well, this is very strange to say the least.

I can't see for the life of me a set of LT1 valve covers fitting on an LS1 if it's really a "one P/N fits all" deal.

No way....

Thats exactly what I am thinking, and thats what I told the Jegs rep that I talked to. He then called the manufacturer (Proform, I guess) and said it works. It sounds strange to me too!

Sounds like the manufacturer doesn't know what an LS1 is...

There's no way they'll work, unless they have a specific LS1 part, as the 87-up centerbolt Chevy valvecover is nothing like an LS1...

JMHO...

I saw the same covers and have wondered if they will work. Look nice, who will spring for the test?

Default Proform One size fits all in wonderland!

Hey guys dream on ! Gen 11 center bolt covers do not share any similaryties
with Gen111 covers.First, what gasket will you use? I am sure that the Gen 11 cover wouldn't even fit on the Gen111 head. And I dont think the bolt spacing is the same either. Proform are probably made in china GOOD QUALITY!In this world you get what you pay for! There is no freebes...

customfab,

you are right, there is no similarity to the gen II valve covers.

Here's what I found on gen III valve covers for the LSX.

• Skigins Dickey wants $880 for their billet versions
• Ktech wants $560 for their tall cast covers
• GMPP makes a set for $800, but it only fits some discontinued C5R head and has no o-ring provision (like stock or any of these others)
• Found several “valve cover extenders” for around $300, that fit underneath stock LS1 units to make them taller (lame)
www.NastyPerformance.com has these:

Saw these on this www.ls1.tech.com forum thread: https://ls1tech.com/forums/sponsor-sales-specials/234151-98-05-custom-valve-covers-gp-280-a.html

He e-mailed me back the same day I found this info and PM'd him:
The GP is long over but I am just doing them as a special price for $300 They are about 3” tall Should clear all rockers. Looks like a sweet project car.
The fabbed ones are $300
Add for billet oil cap $40
Add for the engraving $50 (includes both covers)
Billet cover $350
Add for billet cap $40
Add for engraving $50
Thanks Nate

So, $300 isn't too bad. Might even spring for the billet style, for that smooth look, but eatither would really work.

I think the fabbed version from nasty performance look awesome. I actually prefer the fabbed look to the cleaner billet version.

Lawman - thanks for the link! Hadn't found them yet. Prices are close.

D Rock - yea, I am kinda leaning that direction myself. These valve covers are going on the LS1 in my BMW 3 series that has a welded/fabbed aluminum radiator and lots of welded brackets I built for the custom trans x-member, LS1 motor mounts, etc. It seems like the fabbed valve covers with visible welds might fit perfectly with the theme for this car.

It's not your work--the site is apparently dead.

No, I cheesed out and just got some stock LS1 valve covers for now (for several reasons). I made provisions in the engine bay to fit the taller aftermarket units, tho.

http://www.vorshlag.com/fair/E36mounts_v2_04.jpg - note room to booster. Plenty of room now that I reloacted it all.

the NastyPerformance site is still up... from where I am looking. They never did list these valve covers on their site, but I think they still offer them.
