Will SLP replace?
My headers have turned/stained from something. I do not have reciepts, but was wondering if they would fix/replace them. Just a question. As they are quite expensive and not supposed to do that.
Thanks,
Travis

Are you talking about discoloration from heat? Cuz if so, thats normal. My friend just put QTP LTs on his 02 Z28 and they turned a bronze color within a few weeks, same goes for my other friend. And I'm sure that mine will do the same. How long have you had them for?

Probably just discoloration from heat or surface rust. Either way, you don't have to worry about it. Neither will shorten the life of the headers or affect their performance in any way. The SLP's are STRONG headers: stainless steel AND coated.

no it isnt discoloration from heat. I raced motocross for 10 years (before breaking my back) and we saw plenty of heat discoloration. This looks more like rust, or dryed oil (but not oil).

Probably just surface rust, which all headers (yes, even stainless ones) can get. Those headers will probably outlive you, so there's nothing to worry about. Plus, I can almost guarantee SLP won't replace headers due just to surface rust.

My driver side (2.5 years old) collector is almost totally discolored and partially rusting, and I shall be contacting SLP here shortly for ANOTHER set, making the 3rd. Passenger side is OK, but I had same problem on the first set(which they claimed was the coating company's fault). If I get a chance, I'll post up pics tomorrow. I noticed it the other day on the lift!
Always seems to be the driver side for some reason! Any clues why one side is spotless and the other is badly discolored?
Good luck!

Oh, trust me, they'll replace them, but at their install rate!
Mind you, I'll probably have to fight them, but luckily I know most of the ppl in charge
I just sent them an email, so I'll let you know!

Actually, they replaced FOC (free of charge) after the first year when they had a rash of jet coating (outsourced) problems. But I fear I won't be as lucky this time since they are now (2) years old, but you never know. Considering what I've spent w/them, they MAY work with me!
I've already PM'd David Hamburger and Brian Reese as to options on course of action, so I should hear something in a day or so.

Just received word from SLP:
They will warranty the headers and have them re-coated! My suggestion to anyone experiencing coating issues, would be to provide pics of said problem and forward to SLP for review and determination. If you have your invoice #, this would also help as they need to validate the purchase.
If you purchased the vehicle second hand, then contact the previous owner, but "SLP" is stamped on their headers, so not much dispute there; however, it will reduce the delay in response time.
Good luck!

SLP headers and them using 409 grade stainless is what turned me away from them. Ill take a 304L grade header. quote from link below "Grade 409 resists atmospheric and exhaust gas corrosion. A light surface rust will form in most atmospheres; this rust retards further corrosion but makes the surface undesirable for decorative applications. The corrosion resistance is about the same as that of 3CR12 and the 12% chromium martensitic grades such as 410, and inferior to the 17% chromium grade 430."
After reading that, if you think about the coating on the 409... if the surface starts to corrode under the coating... like they say it's normal for the surface of 409 SS to do....then you would think rust might eventually break through that coating. I guess the coating would need to get scratced or have an imperfection to allow the environment to get to the steel, but once it does i guess ud und up with what u had in those pics. My $.02
also from what I've heard from other people with coated headers, not nessc. Stainless ones, is that the coating sometimes flakes from so many heat cycles.

Makes sense......excellent technical explanation!
40+ passes at the track doesn't help either, but NOT spraying nor Blown, so no abnormal wear/tear to expedite the deterioration. Just normal daily driving, and some occasional track usage.
I believe SLP does have a disclaimer on those who have elected to spray due to higher exhaust temps which may possibly cause ceramic damage, so just be aware of this before submitting a claim.

Yes sir, as suspected, the jet coating around the collectors is shot, and SLP has agreed to make good on the replacement AND re-install.
Now ya can't beat that!
All I can suggest is that anyone having coating issues, please contact them!
