Default Indexing plugs......

I want to index my plugs, and I think I know the basic idea behind it, but I'm not sure how to go about it.

AFAIK, you index the plugs so that the spark is directly facing the combustion chamber. Do you just put a mark on the plug somewhere that sticks out and just torque the plug to where it is facing the chamber? (without overtorquing or keeping it too loose..)

Any help? Thanks guys...

Generally, you use different thickness washers to get the plug pointed in the right direction when it's fully seated. I considered doing this, but didn't get an answer on what the 'right' direction was for the electrode opening to face on the LS1...

good luck,
Shane

Make a mark on the plug either where the side electrode is or the center of the unshrowded area. Put the plug in and torque it down. Then you can see how far off you are from where you want to be.(the unshowded are towards to chamber) Then with indexing washers you remove the plug, put on the appropriate size for the difference you need to make up and re install the plug and torque... 7 more to go...

Does that make sense?

They have you on the right track. The easiest way is with an indexing kit (although I once did it buy buying up about 10 sets of plugs and trying them one by one 'till I found matches for each cylinder. I had the heads off the car at the time and it was STILL a biotch!)

Face the open part of the plug towards the intake valve.

Indexing faces the plug gap toward the valves, and I read elsewhere that it should preferably face the the exhaust valve - 2 o’clock on the driver side 10 o’clock on the passenger. I can't vouch for that the positioning, and know it disagrees with another poster on here. Anyway, check out this article..

This is where I am headed in a few minutes <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> .
