Default New Texas Speed & Performance lid fitment issues :(

I ordered and got the new Texas Speed & Performance lid and put it on in place of my old whisper lid, and this thing just plain doesn't fit that well at all.

I've had it on for an entire week and it just won't stay locked in place. I'll put the 4 tabs in correctly all the way down tighten down the clamps (just like the whisper lid) and after driving it I'll re-check it and the clamps will be off and the tabs are not back in place. I've tried messing with my K&N to make it fit better but no luck. I've been messing with it for an entire week now, driving it daily and down the track and to no avail it just plain doesn't fit correctly. I put my old whisper back to(to ensure it wasn't just me being the problem) and it stays perfectly. I'm positive I've got it in place correctly (even the front lip). I've loosened and tightened and moved my stock bellow as well. I'm sure it helped out in the performace department, but it's allowing unfiltered air into my engine allowing it to suck up debris and what not.

My next step is I'm going to drill two tiny holes in the front of it and run some screws through it and bolt that thing in place.

There just doesn't appear to be any better way to fasten it down correctly. I love the lid though, it looks great and I'm sure it performs better too. Maybe their next revision will fit as good as the whisper and stock lid.

It did propel my car to a 12.6 @ 114 on Pepboy tires with a 2.2 60'

same thing happened to my direct flo lid. You have to put it up and behind the lip, then the clamps hold it fine

Works fine, but its not how the stock lid fits

I'm familar with the "put it behind the lip" problem, but thats not the problem that this lid has, it just plain keeps coming undone after driving it. It keeps moving forward towards the front of the vehicle it seems. I'm going to put two screws in it to affix it permanently.

Please e-mail me or give me a call at the shop, and I will get another lid out to you ASAP. You should not be having ANY fitment problems at all. I've been running one on my car for over a month with no problems at all. Unfortunately, there were a few 85mm prototype lids that were not marked from the manufacturer, and a few were sent out to customers. If your lid is not clamping down on the MAF well, then you have one of these lids. No matter what, you need to get a new lid. All of the lids are being tested after receiving them from the manufacturer to ensure proper fitment, so this will NOT happen again.

I apologize for the inconvenience and problems. We'll get another lid out to you ASAP!

Thanks!

Trevor

I just put my TSP lid on and it was a PERFECT (really snug) fit!

Actually fit better than my Direct-Flow lid. Great job on the new lids Trevor.

I just got my lid yesterday and love it! I have the fast toys ram air and the k&n filter and it was kind of tough to get the lid notches into the 4 grooves on the top but I had a buddy come over and help me wedge it in there and it's really tight! Just make sure your bellow is pushed tightly against the throttle body and the MAF end and slap that bad boy on there! thanks again Texas Speed!

I've seen isolated cases of lids of just about every brand not fit well. I think it has to do more with manufacturer tolerances, not every car is the same.

I personally have a Whisper Lid, and it's fit perfect on two different cars for over 3 years now.

Great customer service from Trevor though! But, if your stock shroud or some other component was manufactured on the high or low end of "in spec", you may still have issues. I've seen at least one car have an issue with every lid that was tried. Hopefully yours will be a simple fix though.

I am no expert, but I have noticed this. If you take a minute to look at your lid and lower box and find the tight spots between the two, you can trim a touch off of the lower box with a razor blade and your lid should fit nicely.

At least this has worked for me.

hmmm...

Not good to hear. Hopefully (unfortunate for you) it is an isolated incident. Mine should arrive today. I'll post back later.

My whisper lid did exactly what you are saying the TSP lid is doing. The way I fixed it was, putting all four tabs in the correct place, and then duct taping the clamps down w/ black duct tape to make it look as good as possible.

I got the TSP lid because everyone else I've talked to said it fit "better than any other they've had."

Also Trevor stated that they have a lifetime replacement warranty: "We will stand behind our lids, so if you have a problem with one we will replace it at no charge."

The previous was posted here New LS1 Induction for F-Bodies! about halfway down the first page.

I apologize for not getting back to all of you. We have been going through a few technical difficulties recently. The manufacturer of our induction lids decided to make changes to the design of the lid on our most recent batch without telling us. I first found out about the changes yesterday afternoon after speaking to the manufacturer about fitment problems! The changes sounded good to them on paper, but they were NOT good changes in reality. The changes have made the lids hard to clamp down, and the neck that connects to the MAF sensor is out-of-round. ALL of our customers that have already purchased an induction lid from us are being contacted today. The first batch of lids that we received were flawless. I have one of these on my car, and the fitment is nothing less than perfect. This is what we want our customers to have, and this is what they should expect! One of the main goals of our new induction lid is better fitment. The original design definitely had better fitment, but this newest batch does not. It was easy to see the problems when I tried to bolt on one of the newest lids onto my car. To say I was shocked and mad is an understatement! We do expect to have the problem remedied ASAP, and all of you that have had problems with one of our lids will be refunded the added shipping costs and also receive 5% off of your next purchase from Texas Speed & Performance. We want to keep our customers happy. Mistakes and problems do arise; after all, we are only human. It's how we respond to these mistakes and problems that make the difference. Every customer will be taken care of and WILL receive another lid that fits like it should...perfect!

On a more positive note, we should have some 85mm lids in stock and ready to ship next week. Those of you that are on my list for an 85mm lid will receive an e-mail from me, and I will also be posting up pictures by tomorrow. They will be offered in black and carbon fiber.

We will also be e-mailing everyone on our list that has yet to receive a lid. The black induction lids have been VERY popular, so it is taking some time to fill all of the orders. If you do not receive an e-mail from us today verifying that you are still on the list, then please call or e-mail us. You WILL still get the introductory pricing if you are on the list.

Please give us a call at 806-785-8408 if you have any questions or concerns. You can speak with Brian or me when calling. He is our newest salesman that will be helping out quite a bit with internet sales.

Thanks!

Trevor

My lid fits VERY snug, but it fits. Upon further inspection, (as when I installed it yesterday I was at work and didn't have the time to really look it over)(not to mention the 3 ft. long snake that decided to take up residence in my engine-bay) the neck does appear to be slightly out of round.
