Default wats up with the maft

i ported and descreened my maf ends and cut out the little plastic piece around the sensor. now around 2100 rpms the power drops off. it comes back on around 2500 rpms. im a little concerned about the things ive been reading. one thing says your gonna burn a valve the other says it will lean out the a/f mix and trick the timing ont the car. so wats the real deal and any idea on the rpm thing <img border="0" alt="[bang head]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_banghead.gif" />

I did the same on my MAF. I dyno'd the car and it was way lean, especialy low end. That is where you lose that short power. They told me to put the stocker back in before I burn valves. At one point the AFR hit 16:1.
