Alternator question

Alternator question I just had to replace my alternator the other day and i was wondering what exactly it should be putting out...i checked it right after i put it in with a fluke volt/ohm and it was putting out 14.6....but on my way home from work today the guage on the dash said just a hair above 13???
what should it be? why would the guage be telling me that? I didnt have any accessories running, just car no radio or ac oranything

Re: Alternator question I would not worry about the voltage, but instead the amperage. If you are curious stop by a rebuilder and have them check your alternator output. Voltage is electrical pressure and amperage is volume. So as long as you have pressure then you should concentrate more on your volume. Your pressure will fluctuate slightly but not much.
