Throttlebody Question.....
I have heard a car with the BBK performance throttlebody on it and it makes a really loud sucking sound when the car is idling. I was wondering if the ported thottlebopdy makes the same sound.

Re: Throttlebody Question.....
no...it is the TB (I have a BBK on my car). The sucking sound comes from the intake opening that mates with the TB not being ported to match. The air enters through the 80 mm TB but then hits the square edges of the 75mm intake and tumbles. It goes away once you pass 1/3 throttle. I just went in and ported the opening on my intake with a die grinder to make them match and then no more sound.
To answer your questiong, I don't think standard ported TBs have that problem because they are not actually made larger (they are still a 75 mm TB).

Re: Throttlebody Question.....
I love the sucking sound it makes, i just don't want to pay $400.00 for the name brand one if I can get the same sucking sound from a ported T.B for a lot less.

Re: Throttlebody Question.....
Appreciate the comic relief guys, but that doesn't help answer my question. OK, Does the ported LS1 TB make the same HISSING sound that the BBK TB does?

Re: Throttlebody Question.....
2001CamaroGuy answered the question already. The BBK TB has an 80mm opening and the intake has a 75mm opening. I haven't seen it in person, but the way I understand this, there's a 5mm difference between the mating surfaces. As far as I know, other aftermarket tb's don't have that 5mm lip sticking into the air stream. Hope that helps.
