Default Pulling the motor...any tips?

Gonna pull the motor in my 99Z28 real soon so I was looking for some pointers. I will be pulling it from the top and I want to leave the tranny attached. Any tips on how to make this easier would really help me out. Thanks

yup did it 3 times 2 with the tranny. take your time and dont get in a hurry, when its alllllmost about to come out youll need to twist it to the driver side and have the tranny tail as loooooow as you can get it, it should look like your trying to bring it out front side up.
take off the crank pully
drain the tranny and get one of those caps that goes in that tail shaft to keep from draining or youll have a HUGE mess.
heads on or off, dont matter.(easier to pull the motor but still time consuming to pull em)
when the wire harness is completly off it should hang over the pass side. dont forget the ALL the ground straps.
power steering pump was a bitch(for me anyway)
dont be intimidated. its not hard.
GET A BOX FOR ALL THE LOOSE BOLTS
no need to mark them as most all are regognizable.
feel free to ask any ????s

Good tips from BYBYC5.

I pulled from the top with M6 trans in my driveway last year. I'll add:

-It was easiest for me to raise the front of the car as high as possible on the jack stands. Then attach the chains so that the engine and trans hung at a pretty steep angle. Maybe 60 degrees.
-I dropped the trans onto a floor jack. My buddy pulled with the cherry picker while I guided it forward with the jack.
-I took digital pictures of EVERY connection to make sure things were routed correctly when we put it back in.
-I took pictures of the lift chains, so when we went to put it back in, the picker was set up the same and the motor/trans swung at the same angle as when it was pulled.
-Pay attention to the order that you take the trans support and torque arm apart. I don't know if I was just tired or dumb, but this seemed like a brain teaser when I put it back together!
-Label all your bolts, wires, etc.

Good Luck! It looks like a tough task with all the connections and accessories, but it's not that bad.

-Dan

Great tips guys. In about 2-3 weeks Im pulling mine from the bottom. For the most part it looks like I just have to remove the K-member, and grab it from the bell housing bolt sockets. Are there any other tips for doing it this way?

I highly suggest that if you have the means, to do it from the bottom. Of course you'll need a hoist, but we had mine out in 45 minutes this way.

We disconnected all fuel lines, cooling, electrical ground straps, exhaust y-pipe, struts, shifter. From there we set the car on the hoist enough to support the transmission and K-member with jack stands, simply unbolted the three bolts on each side that hold the subframe (K-member) to the car...lifted the car off the engine and transmission.

Sooooooooo much easier!!!

My friend will be racing his '92 a lot this summer. Firday night is when we go. I bring my digital camera, so I can send you a movie of your runs once I meet you. I'll have mine down there late July so that everything has had time to break in. I need to buy a 12 bolt also , but its going to have to wait until next year, so no dumping the clutch for me

Hay thanks for the info. A friend of mine just bought a lift(setting it up this week), so the car will be nice and high. He actually lives out in wayland(spelling), so I have a drive a head of me to get there. I also got the service manuals from the library for '99, '01 TAs and '01 corvette, so I think Im covered. I'll be at the NY international raceway this weekend(and friday nights this summer). Drop me an email when you go there, and we'll hook up.
