Default Header install

I just ordered my pacesetter longtubes and y pipe. Should I tackle this myself or should I take it to the local mechanic. I am mechanically inclined but I know its got to be tight in there. Any special tools to get those manifolds off? Does the y pipe bolt right up?

It's a fairly easy job (you're right about it being somewhat tight), a 10mm gear wrench, or a ratchet with a 1" extension, or even better, an air wrench, a jack and some stands that let you get the car 2' in the air, and basic (metric) hand tools and you're all set
There's lots of how to's floating around the net, LS1howto.com, installuniversity.com that show you exactly what is involved in adding headers
I did mine by myself in the garage, I took my time, started on Fri @ 6pm, and was finished and driving it Sun afternoon (no I didn't work straight thru ) it was fairly easy, and no permanent scars either

Surely do it yourself, its not very difficult. Just be sure to get the car up very high in the air.

getting the coil packs off is a pain from what my buddies have told me. if u have spare time try and get at the very back ones cuz if you do it will be any easier install from what my buddies have told me for when you go to install um. i'm ordering some pace setters this week probably and im trying to get at my back coil pack bolts so it will be easier before i wanna install them.

good luck tho.

you also might want to find a extra set of hands to help, its really hard to possition the new headers and start the bolts all at once. it will also be nice when you get frustrated at the pasenger side manifolds. also make sure you soke the manifolds and bolts just to make things alittle easier. also have a saws all near by for cutting the old y pipe and incase you need to cut that little cube of the block.

I think it's pretty straight forward myself. I have done three installs, two were Pacesetter and the other was Flowtech. It does help to have someone start bolts while you hold the header in place against the head, but it can all be done alone if need be.

Get yourself a fresh set of plugs to go back in there. NGK TR55s if your all motor, gapped @.050-.055. Don't forget the anti-seize for the header bolts and spark plugs.

I'm considering getting Flowtech headers in the near future, and installing the myself as well.

Amnyone have any experience with Flowtech in terms of fitment/quality/installation??

Go with the Pacesetters. I have had both and the Pacesetters fit better, are better quality as far as the welds, and the thickness of the material they're made of, especially the thickness of the flange. Pacesetters hands down
