Default What to do about loudmouth?

I've gone from the stock SLP dual dual that come on the car to the upgraded dual dual by SLP. Both were too quiet. Finally went to the loudmouth. It's just too loud. So, I've been reading about the bullets and all I can find about changing out the resonator in the intermediate pipe and replacing it. Can someone recommend a replacement muffler in place of the resonator that has a muscular sound, good flow but not as loud as the loudmouth?

I put the SLP aftermarket(upgraded) dual/dual on my SS and I think it sounds perfect. Just curious, in terms of sound how does it compare to the FACTORY dual/dual? Is it more aggressive sounding as advertised? I realize this is not the answer to your question, but this is something that I have been very curious about for a long time.

P.S I agree, the Loudmoth is obnoxiously loud!

Most people get a dynomax bullet or borla muffler. they are ~$35 through jegs. They quiet it down a little bit and help out with drone and rasp.

Sell it and get something you can live with. That's what I did

Especially at start up. Hell, I knock my neighbors out of bed everymorning when i fire that thing up. But, like I said, the others were too quiet and my understanding is quite restrictive. (somebody on this board called it a bus muffler). I want with something with good flow, without the "excessive" loudness. Will the Borla or the Dynomax quiet it down that much?

I will have to disagree. The SLP dual/dual cat back is a very free flowing exhaust(especially the "upgraded" dual/dual). Also, just because the muffler is "big" doesn't mean it is restrictive.

Could someone with an LS1 please tell me why you think the "loudmouth (LM)" on an LS1 is soooooo LOUD?? My brother had an LS1 and with the stock exhaust and it sounded like a mouse... maybe like a really big rat at WOT. He has the LM now and... well, now you can hear it without going at WOT! It is a huge sound improvement I agree but loud? My LT1 w/LM alone at 2200 rpm is probably louder than his at WOT! Please... I don't understand... SS125, if you knocked your neighbors out of bed during start-up, then I must knock my neighbors through the roof!

I think that putting the bullet in the I will give a HP up top to, if you think about it most of the rasp and sound is the resonator and the swirlin of air it creates, a bullet should create a better flow, that is the next thing I am going to do. I love how loud mine is and with the LTs i can put all of y'all with stockmanifolds to shame.

If you are still running through cats, the LM cat-back is not loud at all! Most of the time it is not loud enough for me; the only time it sounds right is at 1800 rpm where it resonates.

You can put in 2 smaller bullets in the rear of the exhaust..tailpipes..can't see them unless you look.mellows the sound quite a bit..and pretty easy to do.

I think some of you might have missed the point of my quesiton. I was trying to figure out why some LS1 guys THINK the LM on their engines is loud... so loud that they'll change their LM for something like Hooker or Borla or something with a muffler. I have the LM on my LT1 and on a loudness scale of 1-10 (10 being the highest) I would rate it as a 7. Some of you LS1 guys seem to think it's around 15 or so, while I would consider it to be a 5 . I haven't heard an LS1 with a LM, headers, y, cats/no cats but I would imagine it would take it to an 8 or 9. I think the LT1 would set the defenition for loud (when compared to the LS1 ) and I am going to set up my exhaust this summer with headers, hi-flow cats (only because running without cats is a federal offense ), y, and keep my LM. That should put it at a 12 (a 15 with cams) ! I already know what makes the LM loud. I just wanted to know what makes it sound loud to some of you LS1 guys. Nothing against you LS1 guys, but I have heard the LM on LS1's compared to garbage trucks in terms of loudness . Like I said in my previous post, I know that the LM on a LS1 is a huge improvement on sound from stock. And if that's the reason why some of you think it's loud, then my question has been answered. Maybe I've just misunderstood some of your exagerrations, but most of you post loudness without a relative source of reference (loudness compared to ______?). You just say it's loud (found by 3 or 4 exclamation points, like so...)!!!!

I think they just havn't heard a loud LS1 yet and thats why they think the LM is so loud. When I had just gotten my T/A and it was stock, I knew some guys down the street with 99 camaros that had headers and no cats so I knew what a loud LS1 sounded like. A few months later, I got a GMMG cat-back and even though my car got a lot louder, it was nothing compared to theirs and GMMG isn't really quieter than the Loudmouth. I've got headers now and no cats and it's so loud and raspy, way louder than just a cat-back ever was. I now have dual cut-outs installed after the headers and that just puts everything to shame. Sounds like you went back to the stock set-up when you close them back up! So I'm guessing they just don't live around where a bunch of loud cars are so they don't know what "really loud" is on a car. Just give em some headers and no cats with their Loudmouths and then they'll know
