Default did a search an maf..... maybe you can help!

reading past posts im no further than i was before. first off i have a 2002 m6 with lid and lm catback.
with that said-im toying with the options of further opening up my intake, will it help or hurt? i dont know thats why im here.
heres what i gathered so far (i think)....
a4's = bad with out tuning or a maf that is calibrated for our cars (not my concern though i have an m6)
everyone talks how great the granatelli is(excuse the spelling) but what i gather and that no one mentions is that 300 dollar model is almost like a performace chip with a special tune built in. could or wont that interfere with any future tuning you may have to do? (damn mod bug!!!! )
so that leaves me with the slp 85mm maf. does it do anything? is it calibrated in proportion to its increased diameter so it doesnt cause excessively high lean conditions? (i dont want to buy a maf translator because im waiting to see what new programmers or software might be emerging)
even a slight increase is ok even if its not econmically sound (i would have bought a cavalier if i was budget minded that bad!)i just would hate to have adverse effects and lose future programming potential.
i apologize for the length. i just got my car out of storage tonight and forgot to clean the seat before i put her up for the winter. when i sat back in it i was covered in mod bugs!! and here i am with the only support group i have! <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />
thanks guys
jeff

All I can say is that the Granatelli SUCKS. That's just my opinion though. Here's the story.

I had my car dyno'd with the Granatelli MAF in. I made 300 rwhp, and 315 rwtq.

I took the Granatelli out, and put the stock one back in. No other changes at all. Made 330 rwhp, and 333rwtq.

The Granatelli was messing with my A/F ratio bad. I bought the one that's "Calibrated" for nitrous, and it made me run pig rich. The A/F ratio was what was stealing the power.

The regular Granatelli may be okay, but I don't recommend the one for nitrous.

Juat my 2 cents.

Your best bet IMO is going with the stock MAF but descreen it. Since you have an M6, I'd go with ported MAF ends and call it a day. I don't think you find anything better aftermarket. Everyone I know has had problems after messing with the MAF.

edit: Since you're looking to mod your intake. I suggest either the FTRA or the !FRA along with a baker hose. Fernco works too, just not as pretty. There's a link to a pic of my intake setup in my sig.

You're better off getting an FTRA. The MAF's won't give near the gains that the FTRA will give you. I have the PACE MAF and am pleased with it. I cant feel much power difference but throttle response is much better.

I had the SLP 85mm MAF on my 01 M6 SS. At WOT, high rpm, it caused me to lean out and ping. On the other hand, my buddy has the SLP MAF on his 02 M6 WS6 and has never had a problem. The thing with aftermarket MAFs is that each car seems to react differently regardless of the brand. Some guys swear that they picked up 10+ hp, others end up leaning out. I'd stick with the stock unit and spend your money on something else.
